Blockparty 7 Is Almost Upon Us
This weekend marks the seventh outing for the New York Scooter Club’s annual city rally, “7 Deadly Scoots.” Typically a three-day event, this year it’s been condensed into what will no doubt prove to be one hyper-fueled scootin’ Saturday. Get your wheels ready…
Once again the hard-working rally committee at the club have been burning the midnight oil putting together a jam-packed event that welcomes scooterists young and old from all over the city and beyond. Sixties Lambretta owner? You’re in. Proud 2012 Yamaha rider? You’re in. Don’t expect scooter snobbery. Do expect a great opportunity to get out and ride and meet up with old friends and new.
The event kicks off with a light breakfast at 10:00am at Vespa Brooklyn in Fort Greene. City scooterists unfamiliar with the dealership’s location or looking for some early company can also meet up a half-hour prior (9:30am) at The Brass Monkey in the Meatpacking District for a group ride over to the borough of Kings.
Too aid condensing this year’s event into one day, two ride options will head out from Vespa Brooklyn simultaneously:
Those looking to get out of the city will be able to join ride leads Alan and Becca for a ride north of the city along the banks of the Hudson with a break for lunch in Piermont, NY.
Riders looking for some fresh-air New York City style can alternately join ride lead Chris for a Blockparty traditional destination, Coney Island for plenty of sun, sea, surf, with plenty of fried food courtesy of a chance to hang at Nathans Hot Dogs.
The rides head out at 11:00am and 11:15am respectively. These times, of course, fall under the notorious scheduling caveat, “scooter time.”
No matter your destination, both rides will head back to Brooklyn in time for food, music and the annual raffle at 4:00pm at the vintage scooter specialists, Scooter Bottega, in Red Hook. This year, we at NYCScootering.com are proud to be just one small sponsor contributing to what is shaping up to be a fantastic raffle with a whole ton of generous sponsors. Don’t forget to buy your tickets throughout the day!
Manhattan-based scooterists looking to head back to Gotham in style will be able to do so by joining the 8:00pm night ride through Times Square, also an annual Blockparty tradition. Those who missed the fun at Scooter Bottega or headed home for a change of clothes during the afternoon will be able to re-join the night ride fun during a brief 8:30pm pit stop at The Brass Monkey before heading to midtown.
Still haven’t had enough? Following the Times Square ride, scooterists looking to unwind will be able to do so back in Brooklyn at the Crown Victoria Bar in Williamsburg. The fun is planned to start at around 9:30pm. Scooterists looking to drink are of course strongly encouraged to leave their scoot at home or lock it up somewhere for the night before imbibing.
See you Saturday!
